Services: Notarial Services

Middleton & Upsall are able to provide Notarial Services and have two Notary Publics within the practice, Ingrid Hindle and Richard Vine.  Notaries are  internationally recognised; their main function being to sign and seal documents for use abroad.  Notaries are required to check the identity of the person for whom the document is being prepared and as a consequence you will be required to provide a passport and an up to date utility bill or bank statement showing your name and address.  Notaries can also be required to certify information, for example facts about a company and you will be required to provide the relevant information before the notary can certify and notarise the document.

Notaries identify themselves on documents by use of their individual seal.  Such seals have historic origins and are regarded by most other countries as of great importance in establishing the authenticity of a document.  A Notary's seal is registered with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and with many foreign embassies and consulates.  Other procedures exist to check the veracity of the seal  - a process called legalisation.

There are approximately 1000 Notaries in the United Kingdom all of whom have qualified and trained to become a notary public.  Most are also solicitors.

Our notarial fees are charged as per Notaries Society guidelines.  We currently have a minimum charge of £60.00.  You will be expected to settle the invoice at the time of your visit.  Some documents will also require an apostille which is dealt with after notarisation by the FCO and which can be arranged through Middleton & Upsall.
